Make a Green Wood Chair

Learn how to make a beautiful hand-made green wood chair from hazel grown at Westonbirt Arboretum in this green wood working course.
You will make this simple yet sturdy chair using simply a saw, drill and hammer. No wood working experience is necessary and you will be guided through the whole process.
The hazel poles are harvested using an ancient coppice technique and are completely sustainable. All wood and tools will be provided and you’ll take your own unique chair home at the end of the day.
Due to the nature of the green hazel poles and harvesting, this course only runs in June.
You'll discuss the basic shape and framework of a green wood chair before Jane shows you the techniques for trimming and joining the hazel rods.
Every chair is different and equally beautiful - think about your design and how you will work with the hazel rods.
It's time to make your chair - Jane will give you as much or as little help as you need.
The course will finish with tea and cake and the opportunity to ask any further questions.
Thanks to Jane, great day, great chair, great company.

What a wonderful day, thanks ever so much.
Make a Green Wood Chair will run from 10am until approximately 4 or 5pm and includes a delicious farm lunch. The end time will depend on how quickly you work. Don’t worry, there’s no rush and you can have as much or as little help as you need to build your chair.
