Learn to Plant Dye Yarn

Learn how to plant dye yarn in this hands-on plant dyeing course.
You’ll cover the first steps in dyeing your own yarn, using foraged plant materials and store cupboard ingredients. You’ll discuss the use of mordants to fix colours, scouring and the different colours that plants produce.
There will be lots of hands-on experience with plant dyes, using natural materials like nettles, onion skins and more to create a range of stunning natural colours. There will be plenty of time to discuss other natural dye materials that you can forage or find at home.
At the end of the day you’ll take home a few mini-skeins of plant dyed Welsh yarn in beautiful natural colourways.
Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while Helen introduces the technique of plant dying.
Learn about plants and materials available for dying and methods used to fix colours before having a go yourself.
You'll continue to work with the plant dyes to create natural colours throughout the day.
The course will finish with tea and cake and the opportunity to ask any further questions.
