Build a Wood-Fired Clay Pizza Oven

Learn how to build a wood-fired pizza oven from scratch in this one day course. Anyone can build a cob or clay oven – you don’t need any previous building experience to take part in this course.
The build a pizza oven course will cover all the essentials you need to know:
You’ll work together to build the oven and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions through the day.
Wood fired ovens have been in existence for thousands of years and cob or clay ovens have been found all over the world. Whether you’re making pizza, bread or a full meal, there’s nothing to beat that wood-fired taste.
You'll start the day covering the theory and techniques for building a clay oven, including: safety and where to site your oven, best wood to use designs.
Start building the oven, beginning with the base.
Help to make the sand form then paddle the soil/clay and learn how to get the correct consistency for the first layer.
Apply the soil/clay mix and the insulating layer to the sand form, discussing the different mixtures that can be used then it's time for the finishing layer.
It's time to create a door. Then you'll scoop out the sand and finish the inside, while discussing the technical aspects and the structural form.
The course will finish with tea and cake and the opportunity to ask any further questions.

Build a Wood-Fired Clay Pizza Oven will run from 10am until 4pm and includes a delicious farm lunch.
We will provide all the building materials and you will have plenty of hands-on experience as you work as part of a group to build a clay oven. Please note, you can’t take it home!
Much of the day will be spent outside in the field. Please check the weather for NP25 and dress appropriately, including:
– Wellies for treading in the clay and washing up gloves or similar if you don’t want to handle the clay directly
– Weather-proof clothes which you don’t mind getting wet or dirty.
